What to Expect/ trouble shooting.
Your new kitten may adjust very quickly, or may take a few days to a week to settle into his or her surroundings. Make sure the kitten has a scratching tree, clean fresh water, food, and litter available and shown to him.
Stress can easily induce some runny stool. There are a few tricks to help the kitten get over this more quickly. You can take chicken and a little bit of rice and boil it until cooked. Put it in the blender and feed to the kitten. It is easy on the tummy and the rice will help solidify stool.
Keep an eye out for dehydration. You can check the by pinching the skin on the neck to see how quickly it bounces back. If it lingers in the same spot more than a few seconds the kitten is dehydrated. You can encourage the kitten to drink by giving some KMR (Kitten milk replacement.) This can typically be purchased at your pet food store. You can also encourage the kitten to hydrate by giving him or her wet food.
Kittens need to be quarantined from other cats at least 3 days for viral guarantee to be valid. It is also good to not introduce the cat and kitten too quickly. Make sure to offer separate food, water dish's, and litter box. Make sure to keep kittens nails clipped. (Careful not to clip to far as to hurt them, If you have not done this then a vet can help. Usually around $10 per animal.)
